Bulli-based fibre optics company Fibre Optics Design and Construct was last night announced the winner of a National Excellence Award by the National Electrical and Communications Association (NECA).
Fibre Optics Design and Construct took out the Voice/Data category of the high-profile awards, based on an innovative fibre optic network installation at Integra coal mine in the Hunter Valley.
The awards were presented at a ceremony in Brisbane attended by leaders in the electrical and communications industries from around Australia.
Fibre Optics Design and Construct General Manager Michael McKeogh said the prestigious award is recognition of Illawarra-grown expertise and innovation.
"Winning this national award reinforces Wollongong's place as the City of Innovation, and also highights the work our business has done in the mining industry both in the Illawarra and further afield," he said.
"We look forward to continued growth as we bring new products and techniques to our existing mining customers and expand into other mining markets. At the same time we'll maintain our strong focus on delivering leading edge fibre optic solutions for infrastructure projects and for the roll-out of the National Broadband Network."
The win caps an outstanding year for Fibre Optics Design and Construct, which also won the Excellence in Innovation, and Information, Communication and Technology categories at the Illawarra Business Awards earlier this month.
